A Financial analyst, Sydney Casely-Hayford, has accused the immediate past Sports Minister, Elvis Afriyie-Ankrah, of using Ghana’s participation in the 2014 World cup as a guise to “steal” from the state.
According to him, President John Mahama must take advantage of the revelations at the Commission probing the country’s poor showing at the Mundial and prosecute Afriyie-Ankrah and all those known to have “stolen” from the country.
“Elvis Afriyie-Ankrah and his cohorts stole from the state, it was plain thievery, they never planned to prepare for any world cup, they just went to steal and they stole.
“The president must sit up and charge this people or else this opportunity will be missed forever,” Caseley-Hayford fumed on Adom FM, Wednesday.
The former deputy local government Minister, who led Ghana’s contingent to the tournament as Sports Minister has already appeared before the Justice Dzamefe Commission, which is probing Ghana’s participation in the world football showpiece.
He has been widely criticised on social media for making poor financial decisions and wantonly mismanaging funds in Brazil during the tournament.
