NPP race: Akufo-Addo must run unopposed – Osafo Marfo

A former Finance Minister under the Kufuor administration, Yaw Osafo Marfo is urging the three other aspirants in the New Patriotic Party’s flagbearership race to “voluntarily quit” the race and allow the party’s two-time presidential candidate, Nana Akufo-Addo run unopposed.

Marfo believes such a gesture will promote unity in the party ahead of the 2016 general elections.

“This election should unify us, I will plead with the four to voluntarily quit the the race and nullify the October election so Nana can go alone. Our delegates showed the direction of our party and what they want in the Super delegates elections” the former sports minister told Citi FM on Monday.

Three other people including former trades minister, Alan Kyerematen will contest the former Attorney general in the mega conference of the party scheduled for October 18 to elect a flagbearer for the elections which is two years away.

Akufo-Addo won an overwhelming victory in a mini congress elections which reduced the number of flagbearer aspirants from seven to five as stipulated by the party’s constitution.

He is hoping to the lead the main opposition party for the third time.
