Court jails thievery purchasing clerk

The Tarkwa Circuit Court on Monday sentenced Yakubu Issaka, a 38-year- old Purchasing Clerk to four years imprisonment for stealing GH? 29, 680, belonging to Produce Buying Company (PBC) substation at Naabakrom near Samreboi.

Prosecuting, Police Chief Inspector Florence Tawiah, told the court presided by Mr Justice Samuel Obeng Diawuo that during the 2013-2014 main cocoa season, the convict collected various sums of money to the tune of GH? 89,040 from the complainant, Abdul Razak Mbugri, a staff of the PBC, to purchase 420 cocoa bags of for the Company.

She said Yakubu delivered 280 bags of cocoa valued at GH?59,360 but failed to deliver the remaining 140 bags estimated at GH?29,680.

Chief Inspector Tawiah said all efforts by the complainant to retrieve the money or the cocoa bags proved futile.

She said Yakubu left his cottage at An-antintem near Samreboi but was arrested on April 18 when he emerged from his hideout.

Chief Inspector Tawiah said during investigation, nine bags of cocoa valued at GH? 1,908, were retrieved from the convict.

The court ordered Yakubu to refund the remaining amount to the complainant after serving the sentence.
