Recent happenings in the opposition New Patriotic Party is an indication that the party has lost respect for former President John Kufuor, according to Kojo Twum-Boafo, Chief Executive Officer of the Ghana Free Zones Board.
According to him, the party could have avoided the wrangling in its fold if leaders and members had heeded the counsel of the ex-president.
The NPP has been in the news lately over some administrative changes that is taking place at its communications directorate. Its General Secretary, Kwabena Agyepong, claims his life has been threatened over the administrative changes he and the Chairman, Paul Afoko, sought to effect.
Some members of the party suspect the Afoko-led administration is deliberately victimising party officers who they perceive to be loyal to the party’s two-time presidential candidate, Akufo-Addo.
The former president has in a statement called on members of the Danquah-Busia tradition to remain calm and allow the new executives some room to operate. But senior members of the party keep trading words and accusations in the media.
Speaking on Accra-based Radio Gold, the Free Zones boss said: “It seems to me that some people in the NPP have lost respect for Kufuor. In some jurisdictions, what Kufuor says will be the final word since he is the most successful leader in the Danquah-Busia tradition, but it seems no one cares.”
