“I Do Not Even Know Her,” Accused Tells Court

Even though the campaign against rape and other vices against children are still as intensive as ever, many more men are still defiling children.

The latest to join the band of rapist is a 27-year-old Loader at the Kotoka International Airport, a native of Assin Fosu, Yaw Akowuah. He has been remanded into prison custody to re-appear on February 5th.

Inspector Emmanuel Taiwiah Boison of WAJU told the Accra Circuit Court B1 presided over by His Honour Kwadwo Owusu, Esquire that the complainant Judith Boadi is the mother of the victim and they both reside at Teshie in Accra where the accused also resides.

He said the victim often helps her mother by selling tomatoes in the vicinity. According to Inspector Boison, Yaw has turned the victim into a “sex machine”. This the victim has kept as a secret for fear of being beaten.

Again on December 13th, last year, she went to sell tomatoes but as usual kept long and was later brought home by a Good Samaritan. Her mother became suspicious and questioned her. She broke the silence and told her Yaw lured her while on her rounds selling tomatoes and forcibly had sex with her.

A report was made to the Police and a Medical Report form was issued them for treatment and examination.

The medical report form signed by Dr A. L Zakpaa, a Medical Officer at the Police Hospital confirmed she was defiled.

Yaw upon arrest denied the offence in his cautioned statement saying he does not even know the victim or let alone had sex with her. He told the police he was at his work site at the Kotoka International Airport when he was picked and is innocent.
