Mechanic remanded for possessing narcotic drugs

An Accra Circuit Court on Tuesday remanded one Issah Ibrahim, Mechanic, into police custody for possessing 154 wraps of narcotic drugs without lawful authorisation.

Issah who pleaded not guilty to the charge is to reappear before the court presided over by Mr Francis Obiri on August 12.

Prosecuting, Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Moses Atibilla told the court that on July 24, at about 1920 hours, a team of policemen from the Regional Police Command were on foot patrols at Tudu and its environs.

He said the team spotted Issah at a spot behind the United Bank of Africa Bank holding something in his palm in a suspicious manner. ACP Atibilla said the accused person was therefore confronted and when the items were examined, they were found to be small wraps of whitish substances suspected to be cocaine.

He told the court that Issah was searched on the spot and a total of 154 wraps of the substances were found in a black polythene bag he was holding. He was arrested and handed over to the Regional Criminal Investigation Department for investigations.

The prosecution said the accused person told the police the bag was given to him by one Gator to keep and he did not open it. The said Gator is yet to be arrested.
