Two boys drown at Amanzuley estuary

Eight –year-old Raphael Kwofie, and George Nyamekeh, nine years, drowned in the Amanzuley Estuary at Half Assini in the Western Region at the weekend.

The police have since released the bodies of the boys to their families after post-mortem examination at the Half Assini Government Hospital.

Assistant Superintendant of Police (ASP), Charles Mensah, Jomoro District Crime Officer, told Ghana News Agency on Wednesday that the deceased and two others Joseph Forson and Jommie Yeboah were swimming in the estuary on Sunday when the incident occurred.

The crime officer said the boys who drowned were swept by high current, compelling Joseph and Jommie to scream for help.

He said divers retrieved the bodies around 1700 hours.

ASP Mensah cautioned parents to monitor the movement children as torrential rainfall in the area had resulted in flooding and while the water bodies are overflowing their banks.
