Tema Manhean market redevelopment begins

Mr. Isaac Ashai Odamtten, the Tema Metropolitan Chief Executive, has cut sod for work to start on the redevelopment of the Tema Newtown market.

Mr. Odamtten said the project was in fulfillment of a promise made to the users of the facility at the beginning of the year when he toured the market, adding that this was the first phase of major interventions that the Assembly intended to roll-out for the overall improvement of Tema Manhean Market and the metropolis at large.

He said the project, which would cost the TMA more GH¢ 300, 000, comprises of a two-storey 17-unit shop and that its redevelopment would help improve the aesthetic view of the Tema Manhean Central Business Area.

Mr Odamtten said due to population growth and the growing number of commercial activities in the Metropolis, existing facilities that were provided initially are overstretched, making it imperative for the Assembly to modernize, expand and in some cases completely overhaul the existing commercial centres and to rejuvenate the dormant markets.

He appealed to the residents in the area to pay their levies to enable the assembly execute more developmental projects for the benefit of all and also not to encroach on places earmarked for projects.
