About 147 cases of typhoid fever were recorded in the Ahafo-Ano North District last year, Mr Akwasi Adu-Poku, the District Chief Executive, has said.
Addressing the first meeting of the assembly at Tepa, he said malaria cases were on the increase in the Mamfo and Subriso sub-districts.
Mr Adu-Poku said 929.5 million cedis was made available to 69 Community Based Organisations (CBOs) in the district from the Ghana AIDS fund for the campaign against HIV/AIDS.
This, he said, enabled the CBOs to intensify their activities to address the spread of the disease.
The DCE said the assembly collected 485.4 million cedis out of the projected 560.2 million cedis from its traditional sources as at the end of November 2002.
He said the Assembly is to receive 3.2 billion cedis from the District Assemblies Common Fund.
Mr Adu-Poku said a number of projects including the construction of three-unit classroom blocks at Pobiso and Mamfo, the construction of 64 stores at the Tepa market, the renovation of the Betiako primary school would be undertaken this year.
He said 159.3 million cedis has been disbursed since the inception of the Poverty Alleviation Fund (PAF) in 1996 and that 50 million cedis was disbursed last year.
The DCE announced that so far about 600 girls have benefited from the Girl Child Education Project being implemented by the Integrated Social Development Centre (ISODEC) and the assembly.
Mr Adu-Poku commended the assembly’s revenue staff for the remarkable improvement in revenue collection and called on the finance and administration sub-committee of the Assembly to come out with strategies to improve upon revenue generation.
