Nine fight over Tweaa DCE’s position

The fate of nine aspirants gunning for the Ahafo-Ano South District Chief Executive (DCE) position is in limbo, as vetting of the nominees has been temporarily halted.

Raymond Tandor, the Ashanti regional secretary of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), who announced the suspension, said this was to pave way for the incoming Regional Minister, Samuel Sarpong, to have an input in the shortlisted candidates.

The nominees are Nuhu Alhassan Dicko, Bright Osei, Julius Baani, James Adjei, Francis Oppong, Nelson Ibrahim Ayamba, Cariba Zebrilla, Nana Antwi and Thomas Kwakwa.

One of them is expected to be selected for the position which became vacant after Gabriel Barimmah aka ‘Tweaa DCE’ was given a sack by President John Mahama.

He was dismissed over his ‘tweaa’ tantrums which became a thorny issue in the country and was deemed misconduct and an unworthy attitude for the office, having angrily hurtled at a hospital worker at a public function in the district.

Now, the party executive members in the region are holding off the vetting process because of changes in the administration of the Ashanti Region.

While the nomination must be confirmed by the Assembly, the Assembly members could place a hold on presidential nominations; a practice that has been used as a tactic to advance policy or political goals.

The regional minister is now the caretaker who would mend the gap and serve as the president’s representative for the Ahafo-Ano South District until a new DCE was confirmed.
