Akufo-Addo must step aside for younger blood – Sekou

Political Activist Dr Sekou Nkrumah says two-time presidential candidate of the main opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP), Nana Akufo-Addo must change his mind about running for the presidency again.

Dr Nkrumah says the former Attorney General, who will be 72 years by 2016, must give way for younger aspirants to run for the 2016 race.

According to him, the NPP will win the 2016 elections, with or without Nana Akufo-Addo, and thus, the former presidential candidate must take solace in that possibility and relinquish his presidential desire due to his age.

“If I was in Nana Addo’s shoes, I’d have said look: ‘we will win the 2016 elections but it is not about Nana Addo; I’m stepping down because of age and I think I’ve lost two elections, let me back a new candidate to see the NDC out of power,”, Dr Nkrumah told XYZ Breakfast Show host Moro Awudu.

Dr Nkrumah acknowledged that Nana Akufo-Addo’s age is problematic, not only for him personally, but also for the country, should he become president.

He therefore suggested that the qualified age for running for the presidency should be capped at 65.

“Otherwise in the future, even a 100 year old can so he is also fit to run for President,” he warned.
