Liberia Minister pays courtesy call on Ghanaian counterpart

Madam Juah Lawson, Liberian Minister of Employment and Labour, on Tuesday commended Ghana for its democratic credentials in ensuring peace and security in the country.

Madam Lawson made the commendation when she paid a courtesy call on Nii Armah Ashietey, Minister of Employment and Labour Relation in Accra.

Madam Lawson said the visit was to learn from her Ghanaian counterpart and also to exchange ideas as to how the two countries would facilitate labour-related issues.

She commended Ghana for its democratic credentials, and expressed the hope that the unity between the two countries would go a long way to benefits their people.

Madam Lawson said African countries need to work together to strategize for the development of the continent.

She advised Africans who travel abroad to look for greener pastures to stay home and work hard to develop their countries, “if everybody travels abroad to work, who will stay in Africa to develop the country,” she queried.

Nii Armah Ashietey said the ministry is to review the employment policy to facilitate workers’ safety, and ensure that workers are not exposed to dangers.

He stressed that graduates from the universities lacked the necessary skills and experience to work at where they wanted to be, adding that those who had the qualification to work, also have very bad attitudes towards work, like going to work late and closing early.

He said even though Ghana was facing some problems with the Single Spine Salary Structure, some of the challenges have been addressed.
