Cleaner fined for stealing gold

A 35-year-old cleaner working with SAS company, a subsidiary company of Abosso Goldfields Limited (AGL), Damang mine, has been fined 600 Ghana cedis by a Tarkwa circuit court for stealing gold concentrate weighting 1102.46 grams valued 1,834.14 Ghana cedis.

Kofi Adams, who pleaded guilty, will go to prison for two years in hard labour in default.

Prosecuting Chief Inspector Edward Paddy told the court presided over by Mr. Samuel Obeng Diawuo that on February 9, the convict, who used to clean the processing plant after close of work, was searched at the mill gate when the metal detector showed there was something in his underwear.

When he was searched, a quality of gold concentrate weighing 1102.46 grams was found concealed in a rug and hidden under his testicles.
