Massive renovations at Kotoka International Airport this year

Managing Director of the Ghana Airports Company Limited (GACL), Charles Asare, has announced that plans are afoot to carry out renovations at the Kotoka International Airport.

He admitted that facilities at the country’s only international airport are “old” and need to be improved.

“The [terminal] building itself is about twenty-something years old. The runaways are old,” he mentioned in an interview with TV3’s Josephine Frempong on Wednesday, February 12, 2014.

Leakages at the Airport’s terminal have made entries and exits unbearable for some travelers.

“It is unfortunate,” Mr Asare bemoaned, assuring that, “everything possible” is being done to address the issues.

“I think this year we will be changing the whole roof of the terminal building,” he announced.

“We have a consultant looking at the drainage to improve it,” he added.

General infrastructure work at not only the Kotoka International Aiport, but also other aerodromes across the country is expected to begin in 2016.

“[There] is a general programme to upgrade and improve on all infrastructures we have around the country,” he mentioned.
