I will not give up – Mahama

President John Mahama says he will not give up despite the economic challenges presently confronting his administration.

“Fellow country men and women, it is said in a popular English proverb that ‘nothing good comes easy’; the beginning of every good thing and the beginning of every journey can be difficult, but it doesn’t mean that when you start a journey and it is difficult, you should give up the journey,” Mahama told a crowd at Old Ningo in the Greater Accra Region Wednesday.

He was there to cut sod for a 5,000 unit affordable housing project initiated by the government.

According to him, “Ours is a journey in which we have believe and faith and I’m sure that we’ll complete that journey and we’ll be able to look back with a sense of pride and say that ‘we did this journey together and we have been successful’”.

President Mahama, who has recently come under intense criticism from within his government and party as well as from the opposition over his handling of several corruption allegations, conceded that the economy is not in the best of shapes, but said it is being tweaked and nursed back to health.

“We are facing some challenges with the economy and that is normal”, the president admitted, adding: “…Almost all countries in the world are facing some challenges with the economy, but we have the right people taking care of it and the economy is beginning to respond and it is my believe that from this point going onwards, next year 2014, 2015, 2016, we will see a strong resilient Ghanaian economy that will make us proud to be the star of Africa”.
