Ghana’s Police are now pro-active not reactive – Mahama

President Mahama has commended Inspector General Police (IGP) Mohammed Alhassan and the Police Service for what he described as the paradigm shift in policing the country.

According to the president, the new methods and visibility strategy adopted by the service has kept crime at bay and enhanced public confidence in the service.

Speaking at the 45th graduation ceremony for new Police personnel, Mr. Mahama said it is the expectation of the government that the service will continue to adopt and introduce acceptable global standards in policing.

“I have observed with admiration and gratitude a paradigm shift in policing in our nation Ghana.

“We have been visibly moved from a reactive to a pro-active approach of law enforcement through the police patrol process”. This new policing calls for the focus of all police activities to be geared towards crime prevention

President Mahama also noted that his government is committed to equipping the service to enable it fight offshore crimes effectively.
