The Lead Counsel for the governing National Democratic Congress in the just ended election petition case, Tsatsu Tsikata, has strongly defended his comments against Justice Anin Yeboah, saying whatever he said was “factual” and not “lies”.
Mr. Tsatsu Tsikata, on Saturday August 31, 2013, accused Justice Anim Yeboah, one of the nine Supreme Court Judges that heard the matter, of allowing his political bias to cloud his judgment.
The former law lecturer said Justice Anim-Yeboah consistently took an opposing stance against the NDC’s arguments and position as far as the case was concerned, from the outset.
According to him, he was not really surprised by Justice Anin Yeboah’s persistent and consistent opposition to the stance of the respondents because he was appointed to the Supreme Court by former President John Agyekum Kufuor of the New Patriotic Party (NPP).
His comments attracted a barrage of criticism from members of the opposition NPP and a section of the public who felt Mr. Tsikata’s attack was uncalled for and must apologise for undermining the authority of the Supreme Court.
Former President Kufuor also condemned Tsatsu’s comments describing them as unwarranted and unfortunate in a statement.
However, speaking in an exclusive interview on the XYZ Breakfast show on Tuesday with host Moro Awudu, Mr. Tsikata stated that calls on him to apologise to former President John Kufuor and Justice Anin Yeboah for his comments are misplaced.
According to the seasoned lawyer, his critics should rather engage in an objective analysis of the comments he made.
“I think that you need to address the truth in the observations that I made. And I think you need to do it in the context of what all of us observed.
He added that “my comments were factual, is what I said true or not true…we shouldn’t sweep these things under the carpets”.
“I think Judges, particularly, more than anybody else are people we expect to rise above and we need to hold them accountable and that is really what I seek to do”.
