Nana Addo advised to assume a statesman role – Dr Jonah

A Senior Lecturer at the University of Ghana, Dr Kwesi Jonah, has advised 2012 New Patriotic Party (NPP) Presidential Candidate, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, to “graduate” into statesmanship to raise his enviable reputation, following the dismissal of his challenge to the victory of John Dramani Mahama.

Speaking on TV3’s News 360 on Friday, August 30, 2013, Dr Jonah said the vast experience Nana Addo has amassed over the past two decades makes him best suited for a statesman.

By that, he has to assume neutral positions to issues and give advice to other politicians, Dr Jonah explained.

He said it will be a demotion of status for Nana Addo to stand for elections to be a Member of Parliament or to be selected as a minister of state since he has gone through those experiences already.

The NPP flagbearer, who was the leading petitioner in the election suit, announced a few hours after Thursday’s verdict that he will take some time out of “the hurly burly” of politics, “get some rest, reflect and then announce whatever decision I come to in the not too distant future.”

Dr Jonah was emphatic Nana Addo will make a good statesman though he is entitled to any decision he takes on his political future.
