Radio XYZ gets new General Manager

Mr Moro Awudu, 35, a professional marketer has been appointed as the General Manager of Radio XYZ, an Accra based FM station, founded by the late business magnate, Mr David Lamptey.

Mr Awudu who was a product of Adisadel College, Cape Coast, graduated from University of Ghana with a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Linguistics and a Masters Degree in Marketing at Roehampton University in the UK.

The General Manager, who was appointed last week told Ghana News Agency (GNA) in an interview in Accra that his vision and mission for the radio station is to make it very authentic, credible, and reliable and the number one media outlet in Ghana.

If any advertiser wants to do business in Ghana Radio XYZ is what should come in mind,” he said.

Mr Awudu thanked the staff of the station who together with him endured seven months without pay and worked selflessly to protect the legacy and memory of the late Mr Lamptey.

He assured them of better days ahead and asked them to go the extra mile to help the station to thrive.

Mr Awudu brings on board seven years experience at Citi FM and rich background from the various departments of the media such as programming and news coverage. He also worked at Radio Universe.

Ms Cynthia Lamptey, daughter of Mr Lamptey also commended the staff of Radio XYZ for sustaining the station despite the lack of salaries.

“The workers decided to put up their best in honour of Mr David Lamptey and I wish to congratulate them for that,” she said.

Ms Lamptey stressed that the family of Mr Lamptey are very grateful to the personnel for the sacrificial and selfless devotion to duty in the face of the current financial difficulties.

“But for them we will not be talking about Radio XYZ today,” she said. Some of the workers told the GNA they would not allow XYZ, which they believe is Mr David Lamptey’s thriving legacy to die.

They said they would therefore sacrifice everything to make sure that the station remains afloat to contribute to Ghana’s democracy.

Radio XYZ was established on February 2, 2012 after a test transmission on November 2011 at Mr Lamptey’s Kikiriki house at Osu in Accra.
