Accra: Soldier slaps police woman

Sergeant Frederick Afari of Recce Regiment in Accra has been arrested by the Madina Divisional Police Command for allegedly slapping Adabla Vanesa, of the Community Police Unit (CPU), who was on duty directing traffic.

Superintendent Joseph Owusu-Bempah, District Police Commander, said Adabla who was directing traffic at Ritz Junction in Accra ordered Sgt Afari to stop to allow vehicles from the opposite direction to move.

When she signalled the soldier to move, he was still stationary compelling her to get closer to the car to ask why?

Sgt Afari moved to a distance, parked his car and approached the CPU official and asked her why she was shouting at him. Adabla asked the soldier to disclose his identity, and this did not go down well with the soldier who allegedly slapped her twice.

Sgt Afari held the collar of her shirt, jerked her and dragged her to the ground. Sgt. Afari tried slapping Adabla the third time when police men on duty arrested him, and sent him to the Madina Police Station.

Supt Owusu-Bempah said the soldier admitted on interrogation that he slapped Adabla and was remanded in police cells.
