Police hit back at Kofi Jumah over Kumasi comment

Deputy Superintendent of Police, (DSP) Cephas Arthur has called on the former Member of Parliament (MP) for Asokwa, Maxwell Kofi Jumah to put his vast experience as the former Mayor of Kumasi at the disposal of the police rather than making statements to the effect that the Ashanti Region is no longer safe to live.

According to the police Public Relations Director, the fight to detect and prevent crime is not only the duty of the police but all citizens. What he said is, therefore, lacking is help to prevent crime as information is not volunteered to foil the crime.

“Usually, people do not report crime because most of these criminals are relatives and close acquaintances, but our unwillingness to report intended or planned crimes, it comes back to affect us and the society we live in,” he asserted.

Speaking on Asempa FM on Monday, he made this call in reaction to an assertion by the Hon. Kofi Jumah to the effect that Kumasi Metropolis is no longer in safe hands of the Ghana Police Service due to the recent shootings by armed robbers.

According to him, the current fierceness happening in Kumasi must be blamed on the police service personnel in Kumasi since their inability to deal with perpetrators has been the cause of all the violence.

“…this is not the first time, shootings of this nature have happened in Accra, Kumasi and other places. We should not create the impression that the world is coming to an end because of this,” DSP Cephas Arthur explained.
