Court fine traders for doing business on pavements

The Accra Metropolitan Sanitation and Motor Court at Laterbiokorshie in the Ablekuma Central Sub-Metro District, has fined five traders GH¢900.00 for unauthorised placement of containers on pavement at Odorkor near Kpogas Furniture.

The convicts who are Joseph Agyekum, Comfort Sackey, Kofi Kyei, Bridget Yeboah and Madam Janet, would go to prison for three months in default.

Prosecuting, Ms Linda Kumbonu of the Public Health Department of the Accra Metropolitan Assembly (AMA) told the court presided over by Mr Antwi Barimah, that the convicts were served on July 17, 2012 with notices to relocate their containers which are obstructing pedestrians which could lead to accidents.

She said for a while, the court ordered a health officer from the Ablekuma North Sub-Metro Assembly to conduct inspection whether they have complied with the notices to relocate, but they failed to do so.

Ms Kumbonu said the convicts were summoned to reappear in court for non-compliance.
