Upper East Region to get an airport

The Upper East Region will soon get an airport to help curtail the frustration people in the area go through in travelling by road to Tamale to board aircrafts to transact their businesses.

This came to light when the Regional Minister, Alhaji Limuna Mohammed –Muniru, and the Deputy Regional Minister, Daniel A. Syme toured the project site at Sumbrungu near the Regional capital- Bolgatanga.

Alhaji Mohammed- Muniru said: “The opening of an airport in the region will definitely generate massive employment and put money into people’s pockets thereby reducing poverty.”

Paul Betirh, Regional Engineer of the Ghana Highway Authority said the area had been assessed by the Civil Aviation Authority and proven to be very suitable for airline operations.

He indicated that what is needed is for government to ensure that the necessary facilities befitting the standards of airline operations are put in place for the commencement of the project.
