Driver fined for causing damage

Ernest Tetteh, a 26 year-old taxi driver was on Friday fined GH¢ 715.00 for conspiracy to cause unlawful damage by a Koforidua Magistrate’s court.

Tetteh, who will in default spend a year in prison in hard labour, was also sentenced to a fine of 20 penalty units or in default 12 months imprisonment in hard labor.

Prosecuting, Police Sergeant Owusu Ababio told the court presided over by Ms Cynthia Wiredu, that the complainants in the case are City Guards at the New Juaben Municipal Assembly whereas Tetteh and his friend Francis, who is at large, reside in Koforidua.

He said on February 28, this year, at about 1000 hours, the complainants were on their usual routine checks on drivers within the Central Business Centre when Tetteh, in charge of a passenger van with registration number GR 2723 U, pulled up and was signaled to stop.

Sergeant Ababio said when the complainants demanded for his City Driving license he failed to produce it and sped off.

Tetteh was later spotted at the Kumasi Main Lorry Station and his vehicle cramped and locked with a padlock for him to produce his license.

Sergeant Ababio said Tetteh went and conspired with Francis and in the absence of the complainants caused unlawful damage to the padlock and the cramp and bolted with the vehicle.

He said on March 1, a report was made to the police and Tetteh was arrested, and after investigations charged with the offence.
