Haruna Iddrisu appeals to rampaging supporters

The Member of Parliament for Tamale South, Haruna Iddrisu, is appealing to irate National Democratic Congress (NDC) supporters in some sections of Tamale, to remain calm and respect the decision of the President as regards Ministerial appointments.

According to Haruna Iddrisu, it should be the primary concern of all NDC supporters to back the President’s effort to constitute an effective government.

The Tamale South MP was reacting to acts of vandalism by persons believed to be NDC supporters, who were incensed at the exclusion of his name from the latest batch of Ministerial appointees announced yesterday.

The angry youth who gave their name as NDC Youth Network for peace tore down and burnt billboards which had the pictures of the president and that of Inusah Fuseini.

It was widely speculated, the Caretaker Communications Minister would be assigned the newly created Oil and Gas Ministry. But, the appointment of Armah Kofi Buah, particularly after agitations by Chiefs in the Western Region for an indigene to head the Ministry, resulted in admirers of the Tamale South MP accusing the President of bowing to pressure from the Western Region Chiefs.

But speaking to Joy News Thursday, Haruna Iddrisu described the incident not only as regrettable but unfortunate and urged party faithful not to engage in conduct likely to breach the peace of the region.

He also called on the party faithful in the region to remain calm and respect the judgment and discretion of President Mahama as he constitutes a formidable team to deliver the “Better Ghana Agenda”.

He also expressed his readiness to collaborate with opinion leaders in the area to forestall the escalation of further grievances.

Meanwhile, calm has returned to Tamale after Thursday’s rampage.
