Inaugural grounds to be ready by January 5– Obimpeh

The Independence Square would be ready for the Inauguration of the President-elect Mr John Dramani Mahama by Saturday, January 5, Commodore Steve Obimpeh, Grounds Committee Chairman of the National Transition Team said in Accra on Thursday.

He told Ghana News Agency in an interview that general rehabilitation works such as painting, electrical and mounting of barricades are almost complete.

Commodore Obimpeh said in accordance with the 1992 Constitution, the square would be transformed into an open Parliament for the inaugural ceremony.

In view of that the inner perimeter of the area where the Parliamentarians would be sitting would be a restricted area.

Touching on security, he said the venue would be monitored by Close Circuit Television cameras amidst the heavy presence of security personnel.

He urged Ghanaians to uphold the standard they set during the funeral of the late President John Evans Atta Mills, which earned Ghana a plus in the eyes of the international community.
