Demonstrating NPP supporters relocate to party headquater

Supporters of New Patriotic Party on Thursday vacated the Obra Spot near Kwame Nkrumah Circle to the party headquarters to continue their protest at the results of the just ended elections.

Hundreds of NPP supporters converged at the spot since Tuesday to protest the Electoral Commission’s (EC) refusal to resolve their concerns before announcing the results.

As at Thursday morning only a few Military and Police personnel were at the venue to ensure law and order.

The NPP is alleging fraud in Friday’s poll in which incumbent President John Mahama was declared winner with 50.70% of the vote. The NPP’s candidate, Nana Addo Danquah Akufo-Addo obtained 47.74% of the total votes cast but the party alleges the election was rigged in favour of the president.

The NPP indicated it is preparing to challenge the declaration of Mr Mahama as winner at the Supreme Court.

The party cited about 18 constituencies, among them, Tamale South, Yilo Krobo, Kintampo South, Berekum West and Oforikrom as some areas, it believed figures were tampered with.

The party said its Presidential candidate Nana Addo was victorious but “Due to the evil plans of the EC and the National Democratic Congress, Mahama was announced as the winner”.

“We feel cheated by the outcome of the election result and we would continue to protest using legal means to make Nana Addo the President come January 7,” the supporters said.
