PURC investigates unregulated load-shedding

The Public Utility Regulatory Commission (PURC) has constituted a special monitoring team to mitigate the impact of the ongoing load shedding which appears to have been thrown out of schedule.

This follows complaints from consumers about the erratic power outages contrary to rationing programme published by the Electricity Company of Ghana.

The load-shedding exercise has been occasioned by a shortfall in gas supplies.

Director of Public Affairs at the PURC, Nana Yaa Jantuah told XYZ NEWS EGC must do more to educate consumers on the challenges it is facing.

“What we are waiting for right now is for the utility company to rectify whatever problem there is. We have told the utility companies to communicate if they are constrained,” she said adding “they should be able to educate the public and let them know what the load-shedding entails.”

Mrs. Jantua further advised ECG to set up more complaint phone lines to receive more of the grievances of consumers even though the Customer Care Centres are working.
