Ghana in London for World Rescue Challenge competition

Fire Fighters from the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) are taking part in a major fire-fighter event in London, which started from October 18th to 20th.

A statement to the Ghana News Agency in Accra signed on Friday by Mr. Ellis Robinson Okoe, Head of Public Relations, said the event, dubbed the World Rescue Challenge, was the world’s biggest ever fire fighter event.

It said hundreds of fire fighters from across the world would participate in the competition, which would be held at Excel London, the Official Olympic Venue.

The event would also provide an opportunity for fire-fighters to practice the vital rescue and first aid skills needed at the rescue of serious incidents like Road Traffic Accidents.

It said apart from South Africa, Ghana was the only African country that had benefited from the program.

“It is anticipated that the participation of the GNFS team in the event would make our rescue team attain acceptable response time to save more lives during road accidents,” the statement said.

The GNFS team has since left for the UK to participate in the event, it said.
