Cultivates 400 Acres & Processes 5-Tons For Shipment
A team of security officers led by Narcotics Control Board (NACOB) has destroyed a 400-acre wee plantation at Koru, a village near Kedjebi in the Volta Region.
The security team made up of personnel from the Directorate General of the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) arrested some five persons led by a Jamaican, Wesley Appleton, 52, who had in his possession 5 tons of dried wee, he is said to be processing for export.
The wee is said to have been subjected to the best treatment, including the use of insecticides and being properly dried under very hygienic conditions before being released onto the market with some finding their way outside the country.
Those arrested alongside the Jamaican include Kofi Sunu, Selorm Kudzordzi, Odame Nelson, Geshon Owusu and Kwadzo Kwami. They work inside the factory located on the plantation.
They were on October 2, this year, five clear days after the biggest wee haul from Ghana at the Heathrow Airport in the United Kingdom.
The Jamaican, who is said to be the owner of the illegal plantation, had also employed the services of some minors to work on his farm.
Wesley Appleton, who has been in the country for some years, was first chased out from Alavanyo-Nkonya area near Hohoe also in the Volta Region, and had to relocate his business to the Kedjebi area.
