AU and ECOWAS delegation in Ghana to monitor Dec. polls

A joint AU and ECOWAS delegation has arrived in the country to assess Ghana’s preparedness for the upcoming General Elections.

Their visit comes a day after President Mahama invited the international community to come and monitor the December polls.

The Delegation is made up of the AU’s Panel of Elders and ECOWAS’ Council of Elders.

The group has the task of ensuring peaceful elections in Africa.

The delegation on their arrival called on the First Deputy Speaker of Parliament to tell him of their desire to ensure that the elections are held in a free and fair atmosphere.

Its leader Dr. Brigalia Bam, expressed satisfaction with the information gathered so far. She praised Ghana as the pride of Africa for managing elections without violence.

“Our main really is to make sure that whatever elections we have are credible and that everybody in Ghana, even those who would not win the elections would be satisfied that the process was credible and had integrity” Dr Brigalia Bam said.
