Minister laments destruction of Upper West roads

Alhaji Amidu Sulemana, Upper West Regional Minister, lamented the destruction of major roads in the region following heavy rains that hit the region in the past few weeks.

He said the Sissala West District has been isolated from some areas in the region due to the washing off of two culverts on two major roads.

Alhaji Sulemana, at a press conference at Wa, said a steel bridge on the Jirapa-Dowmine-Nandom road has collapsed for the second time within a year, bringing economic activities in the area to a standstill.

He appealed to the Minister of Roads and Highways to focus on roads in the region. Alhaji Sulemana also asked the Forty-nine Engineers Regiment of the Ghana Armed Forces to as a matter of urgency move into the region to help erect the collapsed bridges.

The Minister said he had to make a detour through Burkina Faso to access Fielmua when the bridges collapsed.
