Ms. Abena Kwallah, Western Regional Organizer for the New patriotic Party (NPP) on Wednesday urged the Electoral Commission (EC) to heed the various concerns raised by Ghanaians with regards to the creation of the 45 new constituencies.
She said, despite the fact that the EC was an independent body, it was imperative for it to pay heed to the various calls to shield the creation of the new constituencies for a later date.
Ms. Kwallah said this at the inauguration of a five-member Women’s wing working committee for the Western Regional branch of the party at Takoradi.
The committees are that of Prayer, Finance, Welfare and Events and would be responsible for various activities that would culminate into a victory for the party on December 7.
She said the creation of the new constituencies with only three months to the election would not auger well for most political parties.
Ms Kwallah said it would affect the campaigns and other political activities like the selection of parliamentary candidates by the various parties among others which may hamper the electoral process.
The Regional Woman Organizer said Kenya could be cited as an example in this situation, where the electoral process was nearly marred through such stiff and stringent stance by their EC.
Ms Kwallah entreated the EC to take a second look at their stand to ensure that Ghana continued to enjoy the peace currently prevailing.
On the other hand, she entreated party members to diligently explain all the campaign policies to the electorate in order to win their confidence and votes in the upcoming general elections.
Ms. Kwallah also called on the communications team of all the political parties to exercise decorum in their choice of words, adding that, “We must respect our leaders as a people”.
Mrs. Gladys Asmah, Former NPP Member of Parliament for Takoradi, who inaugurated the working committee, said women were the backbone of the country’s development and urged them to execute their responsibilities to the best of their abilities.
She cautioned them not to kill the vision of the founding fathers of the party but rather unite and forge ahead for victory.
