Court remands illegal miner for defilement

The Nyinahin Magistrate Court presided over by Mr. Sam Nibi, has ordered a 20-year-old illegal miner to be held in prison custody for alleged defilement.

Kofi Boateng is said to have sexually assaulted a 12-year old girl at Atwima-Takoradi, a farming community in the Atwima-Mponua District.

His plea was not taken and he would re-appear on Wednesday, August 22.

Police Inspector Daniel Otabil told the court that the crime was committed on the night of August 6, 2012.

The mother of the victim had gone out, leaving her alone in the house. The prosecution said the accused took advantage of that to drag the girl into the mother’s room where he forcibly had sex with her.

The woman returned on time to catch him right in the act and raised the alarm. With the assistance of neighbours attracted to the scene, Boateng was arrested and handed over to the police.

Police Inspector Otabil said a medical report signed by doctors who attended to the victim confirmed that she had been defiled.
