Upper West marks seventh day of Mills death with prayers

People from all walks of life in the Upper West Region marked the seventh day of President John Evans Atta Mills’ death with inter-denominational prayers and thanksgiving at the forecourt of the Regional Coordinating Council in Wa.

The event brought together politicians across the political divide, traditional rulers, the clergy, the security agencies, the judiciary, civil society organizations, public and civil servants and the general public.

Alhaji Amidu Sulemana, the Upper West Regional Minister, called on all to support the funeral arrangements in their own way to ensure a befitting burial for the late President.

Alhaji Baba Daud, who represented the Regional Chief Imam, said late President Mills worked tirelessly for the betterment of the country and prayed to God to grant him a peaceful rest.

Apostle George Apasera, Chairman of the Local Council of Churches in the Region, said late President Mills fought a good fight and to God he had completed his course hence, the call to glory.

He prayed to God to give the country another leader, who would cherish peace as the late President did.

He also asked God to continue to grant Mrs. Ernestina Naadu Mills and the family the strength to be able to bear the pain.

They prayed for peace in the 2012 elections and urged all to guard against hate speech and violent behavior.

Children from Our Home International School in Wa recited poems to portray the late President’s love for children.**
