EPA organizes drama on environmental pollution

The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has held a drama performance to educate the public on the need to ensure sustainable environmental practices for the survival of all.

The drama, which was staged in Tamale on Monday, was performed by members of the Global Arts and Development Centre from the School of Performing Arts of the University of Ghana, Legon.

It was based on three thematic areas which included climate change, menace of plastic waste and noise pollution.

Its objective was to create sustainable awareness on causes and impacts of improper plastic disposal on the environment.

Students, civil society, non-governmental organizations and members of the public attended the event.

Speaking to the Ghana News Agency, Mr. Abu Iddrisu, Northern Regional Director of EPA, said improper disposal of plastic waste destroyed the health of soils, which had a negative impact on food production.

Mr. Iddrisu said the practice, amongst other things, also caused climate change and other health hazards as plastic materials were non-degradable.

He, therefore, tasked the audience to spread the message of the impacts of the negative environmental practices to make the country a better place to live in.

Mr. Abu hinted that EPA was in talks with a foreign company to establish a plant in the country to help address the menace of plastic waste.**
