Food and Drugs Board to train herbalists

The Central Region Secretariat of the Food and Drugs Board (FDB) is to undertake special training programme to assist herbalists to produce safe and quality products for both the local and international markets.

Mr Joseph Bennie, Regional Head of FDB who was addressing about 70 members of the Mfantseman branch of the Ghana National Association of Traditional Herbalists (GNATH) at Mankesim, said the FDB was aware of the role of herbalists in the national health delivery system, hence the need for such a training programme.

He advised members who could afford it to also upgrade their knowledge at the Instituted of Research into Plant Medicine at Mampong- Akuapim, the Kwame Nkrumah Uiversity of Science and Technology and the Noguchi Institute of Medical Research.

Mr. Patrick Eduful, Enyan Denkyira Rural Bank Manager, appealed to members to cultivate the habit of saving and get organised in groups so as to benefit from the bank’s credit facilities to support their businesses.

Alhaji Adams Afedzi, Chairman of the Association, appealed to members to be regular and punctual at their monthly meetings and said only regular members would be considered for the training programme.**
