Some communities in Sissala West District hit by rainstorm

Some residents in some communities in the Sissala West District of the Upper West Region have been rendered homeless following a heavy rainstorm that hit their homes last Thursday.

Mr. Moses Dramani Luri, the Sissala West District Chief Executive, told the GNA that Jeffisi and Du-West were the hardest hit.

Mr. Luri said the Chief’s palace, the community clinic, the central mosque and three separate blocks of the Jeffisi Primary/Junior High School were among the structures destroyed in Jeffisi.

At Du-West, a community-initiated accommodation for teachers and community health nurses and a new mosque were destroyed.

On the biometric registration exercise, Mr. Luri said despite challenges such as the welfare of registration officers in terms of food and shelter and the lack of fuel to power the generators provided by the Electoral Commission (EC) to charge batteries of the registration machines in some communities, he was generally impressed with the turnout in every community.**
