The Odikro and people of Adumasa near Suhum in the Eastern Region, have called on the Department of Feeder Roads to reshape their roads to make transportation of local people and goods to other human settlements less cumbersome.
Nana Ayisi Addo, Odikro of Adumasa, a cluster of villages, made the call at a meeting of the people at Adumasa, to discuss the deplorable nature of their roads and lack of social amenities, at the weekend.
The Adumasa communities comprise Besenkwanta, Akurakese and two others, with a population of over 500 people who are natives of Akwapim. Adumasa shares common boundary with Kumikrom on the east and Anomabo on the west, and located off the Suhum–Nankese road.
Nana Ayisi stated; “over the years, the district assembly has not implemented any systematic programme of improving the infrastructure base of the area”.
While commending the government, they criticised the district assembly for not reshaping feeder roads in the Adumasa area, to help alleviate problems facing these poor farming communities.
They were not happy that social amenities like schools, clinic, potable water, decent toilets and electricity had eluded them, thus making the people live in abject poverty.
Nana Ayisi said, the community constructed the two-mile road from Adumasa through Ayittey in 1992, while a philanthropist provided coverts over the Maman River.
He said the area abound in cocoa beans, palm fruits, plantain, citrus and other cash crops, but most of them would go waste, because drivers have stopped plying the area, for fear that their vehicles could damage in the mud.
The Odikro detested the behaviour of some politicians, saying, previous DCEs and MPs who visited them during elections, left their cars elsewhere and walked through the swampy and the muddy waters to seek for their votes, but just after the elections, none of them came back to the community.**
