Birim Central MCE leads clean-up exercise

Ms Ophelia Koomson, the Birim Central Municipal Chief Executive (MCE), has appealed to the people to rekindle the communal spirit and embark on regular clean-up exercises in their communities.

She said keeping the environment clean, would prevent the outbreak of communicable diseases.

Ms Koomson said this when she led residents of Akyem Oda at the weekend in a massive clean-up exercise in the area where they swept the streets, cleared choked gutters and weeded the surroundings.

The MCE urged the people not to see their participation on self-help projects as a burden being imposed on them by the government explaining that participation in communal labour helped to accelerate the pace of development.

Ms Koomson, later in an interview with newsmen, said there were a number of development projects being undertaken in the area to help improve the lives of the people adding that they included the provision of educational structures, provision of good drinking water, roads, and electricity among others.
