Kpando, Oct 2,GNA-Mr Francis K. Ganyaglo, Kpando District Chief Executive, on Friday said the Assembly is poised to revitalise its sub-structures to generate more revenue to fund its development projects. He said the Assembly would therefore construct at least an office complex for each of its nine sub-district structures to stimulate performance and strengthen the Urban, Town, Zonal, Area Councils and Unit Committees (UTZACU) for enhanced decentralisation and good governance. Mr Ganyaglo disclosed this during the inauguration of a 52,000 Ghana Cedi Kpando Urban Council Office Complex and Council members at Kpando. The Kpando district is made up of nine councils namely; Gbefi, Sovie, Anfoega, Vakpo, Wusuta, Awate, Aveme-Tsome-Sabadu and Botoku-Tsrukpe-Tsoxo. He said the success of decentralisation depends largely on the extent to which 93we acknowledged development as a business enterprise and manage= d in same manner”.
Mr Ganyaglo said by the Legislative Instrument (L. I) 1967 it Council members are to keep records of all rateable properties and persons, fashion out modalities for revenue collection, street naming, house numbering and create awareness on fire outbreaks.
The Chief Executive urged members to be civil, refrain from being despotic as their undertakings are wholly people-centred. Mr Ganyaglo urged them to collaborate fully with the traditional authorities as major stakeholders and be transparent in all endeavours. Mrs Margaret KattyKrampa, Presiding Member, exhorted Council members t= o initiate programmes and projects to deepen the decentralisation process. Togbui Dagadu VIII, Paramount Chief of Akpini, entreated Council members to discharge their responsibilities according to laws establishing them adding, they constitute the nerve-centre of decentralisation. He urged them to form a taskforce to address the street hawking phenomenon and other emerging anti-social issues in the district. Mr Emmanuel Akoto, out-going Chairman of the Council, asked the new members to be selfless, dedicated and desirous to achieve their objectives despite the challenges that might confront them. The 30-member Council swore oaths of office, allegiance and secrecy.
