Official calls for splitting of Western Region

Takoradi, Sept. 20, GNA — The District Chief Executive of Bia, Mr. Tweneboa Kodua, has suggested that the Western Region should be split into two to accelerate development.

He said the distance of 320 miles from the Bia District capital, Esson-Dibeso, to the regional capital, Sekondi-Takoradi, is too much and that had affected development.

Mr Kodua appealed to the authorities to put mechanisms in place for re-demarcation of the Region to enable the people of Bia get their fair share of development projects.

He said this at the just ended Western Region Human Development Forum in Takoradi.

The development forum was under the theme: “Human Development in Ghana’s Western Region; Managing Development Opportunities for a secured future

Mr Kodua called for a change in the human and resource development of the Region and expressed worry over poor roads and lack of social amenities in the district.

The Paramount Chief of Essikado Traditional Area, Nana Kobina Nketsia V, called for allocation of a percentage quota for the Region’s development saying it is necessary to give the Region its rightful footing.

He said development should be human-centered, adding that development was not only about infrastructural facilities but also about the people’s welfare.
