A staff of Ghana Post, who allegedly used his outfit to facilitate the importation of heroine from Pakistan to Ghana, on Monday appeared before a circuit court in Accra.
With Stalin Tekutey Nartey in the dock was Joseph Nartey, a clearing agent.
The accused, who pleaded not guilty to the charge of importation of drugs without licence from the Minister of Health, were remanded into prison custody to re-appear at court in September 16.
Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Kofi Blagodzi told the court presided over by Mr Eric Kyei-Baffour that Stalin worked with General Post Office Mail Section while Joseph worked at Tema Harbour as a clearing agent.
The prosecution said that on September 8, this year, the Narcotics Control Board received intelligence report that Stalin used his office to import drug suspected to be heroine from Pakistan into the country.
Based on the information, Stalin was picked up by the Police.
DSP Blagodzi told the court that during interrogation, Stalin said since last year he had imported seven consignments of Arabic books into the country on behalf of a man called Ahmed, a friend in Tema for a cash reward ranging from GH?150 and GHc 300.
According to the prosecution, Stalin indicated that on September 2, this year, he received some Arabic books and handed them over to Ahmed’s brother known as Alhaji.
DSP Blagodzi said preliminary investigations disclosed that all the consignment meant to be Arabic books were narcotic drugs and Nartey was used in distributing imported drugs.
The prosecution said investigations were on-going.
