Nchumuru chiefs call on Chairman of Council of State

Accra, Aug. 30, GNA – A six-member delegation of chiefs from Nchumuru Traditional Area in the Volta Region led by Nana Obrimpong Kanya II, Benjamsehene, have paid a courtesy call on Professor Kofi N. Awoonor, Chairman of Council of State in Accra.

A statement issued by Mr Sam Akurang Wiafe, Director of Public Affairs at the Council, on Tuesday said the visit was in connection with the creation of a separate district from Krachi West District.

Nana Kanya said the chiefs, youth associations, assembly members and opinion leaders of Nchumuru had since June, 2010, appealed to the Government to create a new district from Krachi West District for them.

He explained that the vastness of Krachi West District which covered an area of 3,130 square kilometres, the dense population of 79,954, and the opportunity for the people to effectively participate in the governance of the area, were the factors that influenced the decision.

Nana Kanya therefore appealed to the Council to support their request and invited Prof. Awoonor to the next festival of the chiefs and people of Nchumuru.

Prof. Awoonor thanked the delegation for the visit and accepted the invitation.

He assured them that the Council would examine their request and make the necessary recommendations after due consultations with other stakeholders since the Council supported the decentralisation project.

Other members of the delegation were; Mr Francis Osei Sarfo, Member of Parliament for Nchumuru, Nana Kwasi Omankominte II, Bandahene; Nana Kwasi Dangnafogyi II, Tankrenkuhene; Nana Kwadwo Obuemang II, Grubihene; Mr Abraham Amoah, Chairman of Nchumuru Youth Association and Mr Bismark Manibo, a member of the Association.
