Three officials of GES arrested for stealing school books

Koforidua, Aug 5, GNA- Three officials of the Ghana Education Service (GES) have been arrested by the Nkawkaw Police for stealing government stationery earmarked for some second cycle institutions in the Eastern Region.

The stolen items included 11 copies of Macmillan dictionaries, 99 copies of school admission registers, six cartons of exercise books and three cartons of teacher’s lessons notebook, all with the inscription and logo of GES with the 93not for sale” printed on them. According to the Eastern Regional Police Public Affairs Officer, Chief Inspector Yaw Nketia-Yeboah, Nana Yaw, a suspect, attempted to board a Yutong bus at Nkawkaw with the stolen items on July 28, this year. He said a patriotic citizen, who saw the items at the lorry station, prevented Nana Yaw from boarding the vehicle with the stolen stationery and alerted the police. The suspect then led the police to arrest Kwasi Amoasi, 54 and Emmanue= l Asiedu, 59, both storekeepers at the Nkawkaw Senior High School and a 48 year-old logistics officer, James Kessie of Birim North Office of the GES. In a caution statement, Nana Yaw confessed to the police that the thre= e GES officials gave him the items. Nana Yaw is currently in police custody charged with dishonestly receiving whiles the three other officials of the GES have been detained an= d charged for stealing government stationery.
