Korle-Bu hospital gets state-of-the art surgical table

Accra, April 14, GNA – The Neuro-Surgery Department of Korle=96Bu Teaching Hospital on Thursday took delivery of a state-of-the-art Surgical Table, accessories and biopsy equipment valued at 30,000 dollars from the Accra West Rotary Club.

This would replace the manual surgical table which has been sent to the maternity ward to ease congestion.

The donation was made possible by the generous contribution of Accra West Rotarians, their Canadian counterparts and the hospital authorities.

Mr Fredi Asiedu, Out-going President of the club, said though there were challenges raising the amount due to the credit crunch, the club had to cut down on its budget and noted that he was delighted that it had come into fruition.

“I dedicate this table to God, may he bless the hands that attend to patients on this table and may they be healed in body and soul,” he added.

Professor Nii Otu Nartey, Chief Executive Officer of Korle=96Bu Teaching Hospital, expressed appreciation to the Rotarians because the hospital authorities alone could not afford to acquire all the needed equipment to operate efficiently and effectively.

He said about 94-98 per cent of the hospital’s budget went into payment of salaries and noted that 93The hospital has to work hard to buy such equipment and donation such as this is much welcome”. Professor Nartey announced that wards at the Neuro-Surgery Department would soon be renovated after the architectural drawings had been completed with financial assistance from the Canadians for the project.

He commended Prof. Felix Durity, a Canadian Neuro Surgeon and friend of the Department, for his immense contribution to the department and hospital. Dr Thomas Dakurah, Head of the Department, expressed appreciation to the Rotarians for the gesture. He noted that the equipment had brought a tremendous relief to the theatre staff and would bring comfort to patients due to its sophisticated nature. 14 April 11
