Two charged with deceit of public officer

Kade, March 19, GNA – Two persons, Yaw Asuming, an auto-electrician and Kwame Agyiri, were on Friday arraigned at the Kade District Magistrate’s Court charged with deceiving a public officer.

Prosecuting, Detective Corporal Owusu Achiaw told the court presided over by Mr Abdul Majid Iliasu that on November 26 last year, 14 gallons of palm oil were sent to the Kade Police Station by one Kwame Frimpong of Akyem Abodom and three others which they suspected to have been stolen.

The station stored the palm oil for investigation and made several efforts and announcements for its owner to report for identification and claim. However, nobody reported. Consequently, On March 3 this year, the 14 gallons, which were on display in front of the Charge Office were sold and the proceeds were paid to the Government’s chest.

However, on March 8, at about 1440 hours the accused persons called at the station to claim ownership of the palm oil. But after interrogation it came to light that they were not the true owners of the oil thereby deceiving the Police and were consequently, arrested.
