Rainfall disrupts platform mounting at Amanfrom

Akwatia Amanfrom (E/R), Dec. 28, GNA – A heavy down pour brought the mounting of platform for five men and women contesting the Akwatia Amanfrom electoral area seat to an abrupt end. This was after four of the aspirants had presented their programmes and the fourth was being asked questions.

Amanfrom is one of the three electoral areas in the Kwaebibirim District offering the highest number of candidates, five each in the district level election.

The others are Boadua West and Takyiman Ampedwee. But for the late start of the programme the exercise could have ended before the rainfall.

The seat is being contested by Mr Charles Larbi, a teacher, Mr Anthony Dugbatey, a building technician, Ms Afua Adzika, a teacher, Mr Daniel Atiadogo, teacher and Mr Theophilus Mensah. Mr Mensah, unable to present his manifesto felt cheated and wanted the Electoral Commission (EC) officials to give him the opportunity the next da= y to face the electorate but he was told that was not possible. Mr Larbi said previously the Amanfrom, which was a camp housing workers of the Ghana Consolidated Diamonds (GCD) had amenities but with the collaps= e of the GCD, residents are often without potable water and had to fetch unwholesome water. He promised that when elected he would have wells dug to improve the situation.

Mr Dugbatey, member of the last district assembly, was carried shoulde= r high after presenting his programme in which he said with his influence a new dormitory was to be built for the Akwatia Technical Institute. A school was built at Mmofrafadwen, part of his electoral area, to cate= r for children of the village who had to walk some five kilometers to Amanfro= m to attend school.

Mr Dugbatey said he was involved in the effort of the GCD workers to get their severance allowances paid. Ms Adzika was loudly applauded when she mounted the platform and promised that when elected she would make transparency a hallmark of her administration. She would often meet the electorate to plan and execute programmes an= d keep them informed about what was happening at the district assembly. Mr Atidoglo said he would help the Alafia areas get potable water an= d see to clean environment in the electoral are. 25 Dec 10
