Energy Minister, Albert Kan Dapaah has dispelled rumours of a fuel shortage in Accra. Reports of imminent fuel price increases before October this year, attributed to him, has led to winding queues at fuel stations as drivers and other motorists engage in panic buying. This has induced shortages at some fuel stations.
In an interview with JOY FM the Energy Minister appealed to motorists to refrain from panic buying in order not to create a shortage.
Mr Dapaah explained that government does not intend to increase the ex-pump price at which the petroleum products are bought as is being speculated. Parliament has passed a bill which allows the Energy Minister to re-introduce taxes on petroleum products which were not included in price adjustment in February.
However according to Mr Kan Dapaah, the power to re-introduce the taxes does not mean that ex-pump prices will be increased. He also denied media reports of imminent fuel price increases before October attributed to him.
