Omankrado appeals for rehabilitation of Ankamu-Abanko road

Gomoa Abanko (C/R), Oct. 8, GNA – The chiefs and people of Gomoa Abanko have appealed to the government to rehabilitate the 10-kilometre Gomoa Ankamu road.

Nana Kofi Nyamekye II, the Omankrado of the town, made the appeal when he addressed a durbar to mark their Akwambo festival. Nana Kofi Nyamekye said the bad road had affected economic activities in the area and had also deepened poverty. “Our major occupation is farming and so if the road network is bad we shall continue to wallow in poverty since most of our farm produce are locked up in the area”.

He said a few drivers plying the area took advantage of the situation to charge exorbitantly, adding that it had also prevented most teachers from accepting posting to the town. Nana Adarkwah Yiadom I, Amankorahene of the town, appealed to the government to find solution to the perennial water problem facing the people.

He said the town had pipe borne in the 1970s but the system had broken down and the people now relied on tanker services and buy water at 20 pesewas per a bucket. The District chief Executive for Gomoa West, Mr Theophilus Aidoo Mensah, said the Assembly had awarded on contract the construction of CHPS compound in the town to take care of their health needs. The Member of Parliament for the area, Mr Francis Arthur, appealed to the people to invest in their children’s education and promised to help promote education in the constituency.
